in many ways, i am just like barbie. i do hundreds of things--name the thing, and it is probably a hobby i have dabbled in. i may not have several jobs like her, but i too have a vast expanse of interests. when i was younger, my first-grade teacher made us draw ourselves and answer the question, 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' i asked my mother, "well, what if i want to be everything? what do you call that?" she answered, "a multitasker." and so, for that one assignment in first grade all those years ago, that is what i said i would be. a multitasker.

growing up, you slowly begin to realize that there is only one hindrance to your grand quest to become everything. it is time. from the moment you are born, that is your limitation: on this planet, you will not have an infinite mound of sand to spill inside your hourglass. it is perhaps one of the saddest parts of growing up: realizing that you do not, in fact, have all the time in the world. and it is also a marvelous thing to realize that our time is limited, that what we choose to do with that scarcity we are born with is what makes life worthwhile. that we cannot be everything, but it is because we cannot be everything that we can be important, for importance is only birthed when there exists a limitation.

i am not unlimited, as my username suggests, but i still want to try. i want to walk to the border of the finite and the infinite, to see the line between what is limited and what is not, to be able to look back from that line and see that i have done all that i can to make the most out of the time that has been given to me.

and then, i will know that i have lived.
